Probably the oldest surviving temple in Sarawak which was built as a small shrine on a hill before 1856. aA garden in Sarawak. (002892). According to old books on Sarawak, this garden is most likely a garden at the Rajah's Palace. aKuching Water Works. (002891). - The Kuching water works was located as where the Reservoir Park is today, which supplied water to the entire Kuching during the early period. aDyak Warriers in Sarawak. (002890). The natives as shown above is believed to be Iban. aPart I - Sarawak Picture Postcards published by Ha Boey Hon, who was born in 1871 was a keen philatelist and photographer. He was a renowned international stamp dealer and publisher of postcards. He was a friend of Sarawak's second and third Rajahs. He was also one of the last Chinese in Kuching to wear a pigtail. He died at the age of 76 on 21st Feb 1947. No collector of Sarawak picture postcards could afford to neglect the postcards published by Mr. Ha. All were printed in Saxony, an independent monarchy until 1918 as part of N.W. Germany. aPart II - G.R. Lambert & Co. Ltd., Singapore was established by Gustave Richard Lambert on 10 April 1867 at 1, High Street, Singapore. He produced the first picture postcard of Singapore. He was extensively patronized by the British colonial authorities to record occasions and official visits. He was not only renowned in Singapore but also in the region and that include Sarawak. He was appointed as a official photographer to the King of Siam, and also the Sultan of Johore. By the end of the 19th century, his photograph company G.R. Lambert & Co was the largest and most succesful photography studio in Asia. aThere were other lesser known publishers before the WWII. Many picture postcards did not state the name of publisher and photographer. aThe Astana (002877). This picture postcard shows the early views of Pangkalan Batu with a prison building at left (demolished) and Sarawak Government building at the middle with Sir Charles Brooke monument yet to build and Gambier market (demolished). aRegatta at Kuching No.2 (002879). - This picture postcards shows the Sarawak Regatta in 1890's. Probably the earliest known photograph on the Sarawak Regatta. aAnnual Government tuba fishing at Serai No.3 (002880). - This event took place at the Sarawak River with Mt. Santubong at the background. aWell dressed Sea Dayaks (002881). This postcard was posted to U.S.A. in 1920's. The hand stamped 'PAQUEBOT' meant it was posted on board of ship. Rare. aSea Dyak women in full costume. (002882). Silver coin belts were a common jewellery at that time. (002884). The owner of Funk & Sons was Mr. Philippe Funk. This photo was taken by Ha Boey Hon and allowed Funk & Sons to publish it as both of them and their companies had close relationship working together. aThe Rajah's Palace - Sarawak, Borneo. (002885). - This is probably the first postcard published by G.R. Lambert on Sarawak as the Rajah's Palace was the most prominent landmark in Sarawak at that time. aThe Interior of the Fort in Kuching - Sarawak, Borneo. (002886). - The interior postcard tied Straits Settlements stamp 1 cent with Singapore postmark 4 March 1911 addressed to Italy. The fort is known as Fort Margareta, build by Sir Charles Brooke, the second Rajah of Sarawak and named after his wife.
